Bio

After “Dear Great Canyon” (El Segell, 2014) which was a revelation, the album that won Joana Serrat Best National Album of the Year from Pop-Eye awards and led her to tour extensively, the artist from Vic is back with “Cross The Verge”, her second album on El Segell del Primavera. She has once again worked with producer Howard Bilerman (Grammy nominee for his work as producer on Arcade fire’s “Funeral”) and the album has been signed to the prestigious London label, Loose Records for its release in the United States and Europe.
The album was recorded in the analogical studios Hotel2tango de Montreal (Canada) and as well as establishing her definitively as one of the most exquisite voices of American folk from the other side of the Atlantic, with this album Joan Serrat increases her international appeal with outstanding collaborations with Neil Halstead (Slowdive, Mojave 3), Basia Bulat and Ryan Boldt (The Deep Dark Woods).
“Cross The Verge” in the words of its author, is a record about loss; about everything that one gives up when one tries to be honest and coherent with oneself and about how the subsequent tornado sweeps everything away, leaving one trapped between two worlds. And it does this by exploring both worlds, with the extreme intimacy of songs such as “Oh, Winter Come”, “Black Lake” and “Your Gold Could Be Mine” and the powerful instrumental tracks “Cloudy Heart”, “I Follow You Child” and the cathartic “Cross The Verge”, backed by a superb band led once more by Gavin Gardiner from the Canadian band The Wooden Sky and completed by Aaron Goldstein, Patrick Latreille and Toni Serrat.
If “Dear Great Canyon” represents Joana Serrat’s upward journey, then “Cross The Verge” constitutes what she encountered on her way down: a passionate journey with only instinct to guide her.
