Bio
Not bedroom pop, not post-millennial r&b, not new pop, not quite the opposite. Talking about Kora is talking about one of the most unpredictable and uncatalogable jewels of the new alternate sound. From her room and at only 20 years old, the Catalan artist has become one of the open secrets of the circuit and one of the clearest from the national independent scene.
With a register as close to jazz as it is to bossa nova, blues, electronica and the most brilliant pop, Kora has managed to articulate a completely own speech, with a frame of reference as atypical as completely necessary to understand new narratives for contemporary pop music. hence form part of the Spanish Bombs Management roster.
After two years of releasing songs and EPs with very good reception on platforms, on March 11, Kora presented her debut, the LP “fuera de lugar”, composed of 11 themes in which she gives free rein to the style that characterizes her. “fuera de lugar” is an intimate and personal album, cooked entirely by the artist in order to maintain consistency. The album consists of eleven songs produced with what is fair and necessary, maintaining the entity and personality of each one of them and fleeing from artifices: ‘out of place’ is warmth and it is the essence. Throughout these eleven songs, Kora portrays feelings and frustrations of his life until today, in other words, he talks about everything that has made her be her. The title, ‘out of place’, alludes to a feeling of his adolescent stage, when he had to grow up in a hostile environment, marked by sexism and homophobia, which she felt out of place. But with a clear and luminous conclusion: now that feeling of being a black sheep in your environment is what, in the end, makes it so special. Because folks, it is.
‘fuera de lugar’ is above all a personal album. It was recorded in the home studio of Kora herself throughout the final months of 2021. It has also been mixed by Kora, mastered by Kora, and all instruments are played by her as well.
The album’s lead single, “Nowhere”, came naturally to him. The feeling that originated it we have all had at some time: even being in all sides, sometimes it still seems that you are not in any place, be it physical or not. Feeling that you have not just been anywhere, without it being something negative, it makes you find your own home sometimes where you least expect it. In Kora’s case, her home is music.
“I cannot separate what I am from what I believe, in both senses of the word. Music portrays what goes through my head and through my life. This disc is a part of me. “
