Bio
Blanco y Negro Music is the leading independent record label in Spain. Founded in 1983 by Félix Buget and his brothers Luis and Jaime, with its headquarters in Barcelona it is currently one of the main references for electronic music among European labels.
It all started in 1978 with the opening of the Blanco y Negro record shop on Calvet street. That was the first spot where maxi disco singles – thought for DJs – started coming in. Nightclubs were booming and DJs were increasingly on demand; hence Blanco y Negro took the logical path of becoming a record label in 1983 and giving Spanish Disco an outlet channel, while importing and licensing dance music that hardly reached local DJs by other means back then.
With a history of more than 30 years, Blanco y Negro has always aimed for real talent and has worked with internationally renowned artists, publishing and releasing big names under its label such as: Moby, Carl Cox or Sven Vath, a well as dozens of world famous DJs and producers. Blanco y Negro has also created Hits that have been played at every corner of the globe, and now it boasts an extensive catalogue, containing the greatest classics of 80’s Italodisco, reference compilations such as Blanco y Negro Mix, Bolero Mix or Pioneer The Album; one hit wonders like Mystic (Ritmo De La Noche) or Desireless (Voyage voyage) and countless Dance hits of the moment.
Opening offices in Mexico and Brazil has been key to the company in its internationalisation and business development mission. Management of rights and audiences in these territories have been some of the reasons behind Blanco y Negro’s transformation into a bridge of trust towards Latin America for European labels such as Armada Music, CNR Records, Protocol Recordings, Axtone Records, Planet Punk, Cloud9, Kontor Records o Revealed Recordings, among others and therefore, for artists such as Armin Van Buuren, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, W&W, Nicky Romero, Hardwell, Axwell, Lost Frequencies, Don Diablo, Afrojack, etc.
It wasn’t until 2017 when Blanco y Negro began its steps in the world of Live Events as the official promoter of UNITE with Tomorrowland in Spain, the hybrid festival which combines live performances with live streaming of the main stage in Tomorrowland (Belgium), the most important electronic music festival in the globe. Its first edition was held in Barcelona and was only the first step in the world of events. A path that was consolidated in 2018 adding up to 6 festivals in Spain and Mexico: UNITE with Tomorrowland Barcelona, UNITE with Tomorrowland Mexico, Sensation Madrid and 3 Brunch dates in the City in Valencia.
In the year 2022, taking advantage of the lockdown as two years of reflection and settling priorities down, the music label decides to bet on new format based on blockchain technology. The company is now positioned as a pioneer in creating NFTs for the music and festival industry.
