Bio
We are tradition and modernity, art and experience. We are exotic woods, the smell of sawdust and varnishes. We are passionate about the creation of our guitars; generation after generation we have achieved the perfection of a century-old manufacturing technique. Our creations are proof of our strong commitment to Spanish culture, which has led us to having a presence in more than 120 countries. We create the essence of Spain and bring it to the whole world. We are music, we are culture, we are Guitarras Manuel Rodriguez.
The history of Guitarras Manuel Rodriguez is as rich as the wood they are crafted from. Manuel Rodriguez Sr., the grandson of flamenco guitarist Manuel Rodriguez Marequi and son of classical luthier Manuel Rodríguez Perez, learned the art of constructing a guitar first-hand from the masters of the Madrid school.
After operating in his own workshop in Madrid for some years he moved to California where he built guitars for professional musicians, artists and students. On returning to Spain in the 70’s, Manuel Sr. and his son Manuel Jr. decided to open their own factory near Toledo where they still continue to manufacture their hand-made guitars. Many of these guitars are made to order, searching for a specific sound quality and resonance. Although the manufacturing process has been modernised over the years, many stages like the assembling and the finishing stages have stayed entirely handmade, the same as it was in 1905, when the grandfather of the actual director of the company started his apprenticeship. However time moves on and the luthiers from Manuel Rodriguez, after years of research and experience, have managed to add to the firm’s catalogue new models which reinvent the traditional Spanish concert or flamenco guitar without compromising their trademark quality or sound. Nowadays 90% of the production gets exported to over 120 countries. Their reputation for instruments of excellence keeps growing and Manuel Jr. personally ensures that each guitar which leaves the factory is a work of art to be treasured for generations.
