Sounds from Spain plans seven major events for 2017

The platform shall be present in important festivals and conferences in Europe and America. First event, South bySouthwest, arrives in March

Sounds from Spain (SFS) announced that activities shall be hosted in seven different countries along this newly inaugurated 2017. The first of events, within the rock and indie conference and festival South by Southwest (SXSW), shall take place between the 14th and 18th March and SFS will attend this large-scale event Austin-based for the tenth consecutive time. Next, Musikmesse (Frankfurt), LAMC (Nueva York), Womex (Katovicza), BIME (Bilbao), a technical workshop in Colombia and Santiago de Chile’s Pulsar are the following season events.

Sounds from Spain is the supporting platform for internationalisation of the Spanish music industry, conformed by ICEX España Exportaciones e Inversiones, Instituto Nacional de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música (INAEM), Fundación SGAE, Sociedad de Artistas Intérpretes o Ejecutantes (AlE), Asociación de Representantes Técnicos del Espectáculo (A.R.T.E.), association of Productores de Música de España (PROMUSICAE) and the Unión Fonográfica Independiente (UFI).

The massive Austin event, a festival that brings together almost 15,000 sector professionals and hosts 2,000 concerts, shall fire the starting gun for this year’s agenda. This year, six Spanish bands will perform in Texas thanks to the platform, once again with eclecticism as the primary criterion for selection: from Izal’s rock to Joana Serrat or Ramírez Exposure sensibility, playful and rowdy punk of Novedades Carminha, vitriolic rock of Triángulo de Amor Bizarro or the approach to most contemporary hip hop of Yung Beef.

This is the tenth consecutive edition for Sounds from Spain commitment with SXSW. This bet has enabled, along subsequent years, to contribute decidedly to the internationalisation of big names of our popular music such as that of Lori Meyers, Supersubmarina, Dorian, Macaco, Nacho Vegas or, more recently the female quartet Hinds.

Music publishers have their main meeting point in Frankfurt’s Musikmesse, in Germany, this year to be held from 5th to 8th April. And back into most popular musics, Sounds from Spain shall compromise for the second time, following the excellent experience of 2016, with the LatinAlternative Music Conference (LAMC) of New York, from 11th to 15th July. In fact, the deadline to present nominations just started (and will end on 24th February) to select the five Spanish bands that be made known this summer in New Yorker’s stages such as Central Park Summerstage, the Celebrate Brooklyn of Prospect Park or The Bowery Ballroom, among others.

World music and the new models

Even longer in time is the Sounds from Spain partnership with Womex, the great world reference for world music and a conference to which Spanish professionals and artists will attend for eleventh time in a row. Following the success of the 2016 meeting in Santiago de Compostela, the appointment this time is set in the Polish city of Katovicza. And dates to be saved are from 25th to 29th October.

Almost the same days, from 25th to 28th of the first month of autumn, Sound from Spain shall also repeat participation at BIME. The Bilbao appointment has reinforced in a short time as international meeting point and laboratory for new proposals and business models for the music industry.

The Sounds from Spain  agenda for 2017 concludes with two projects that will take place in the course of November. A professional conference in Colombia, market with high growth potential, which details are still to be outlined. And last, the platform shall be present for the third year in the Chilean capital’s Pulsar, between 17th and 19th November. During last year’s edition, artists representing Spain in this relevant Latin American rendez-vous were Anni B. Sweet, La Habitación Roja and León Benavente.
